  Completing your business plan summary

This guide is designed to give you some pointers for completing your inbizvest basic business profile. The aim of the basic business profile is to wet the appetites of potential investors, giving them enough so they understand your business idea and your needs. This is an advert for your business or idea so it needs to be written with the audience in mind.

you will now see the Basic profile form

Step 1- Upload company logo

We recommend adding a logo if you have one as it makes your profile stand out from the others. If you don't have a logo for your business you can always add a photo of yourself or a picture that best represents your business idea. The picture must be a .jpg, no other formats are currently supported.

Follow these steps to upload a logo:

1 - Click on the "upload logo" link

2- Click on the Browse button

3- Locate the logo on your PC or laptop (remember it must be a jpg file)

4- Click open

5- Click on the upload button

6- If it has been successfully uploaded your image will be displayed

7- Click on "Return to basic profile"

Step 2- Business Type

Select the button that bests fits the stage you are at with your business. Below is a description of each business stage:

Just an idea at the moment - You have a great business idea but haven't moved it forward yet. You may need financial investment or expertise to get it to start-up stage. You want to have your idea checked out before others before taking it to the next stage.
Start-up - You have or are establishing a Limited company or partnership. You have a business plan with a clear revenue model, you have researched the start-up and ongoing costs. You have a team of managers and employees.

Established - You have been trading for 12-months or more.

Step 3 - Business Details

This captures some key facts about your business or idea.

Company Name - If you don't have a name for your company yet then just add a suitable but eye catching description i.e. Biotech company with cancer cure.

Your position in the company - Describe where you fit into the company i.e. owner, managing director, CEO, CTO, director.

City - Tell us in which city or town your business will be based.

Business sector - Try to identify the business sector that best fits your business.

Business location - Select the county in which the business will be located. We use this to help match local investors to your business.

Step 4 - Business Summary

The business summary is your chance to give a short but punchy summary of your business idea, this appears in the profile overviews so is very important. The better the summary the more profile views you will receive and therefore increasing your chance of finding investment. Try and sell it to the investor, give them a short overview of the type of business then explain your unique selling point. This needs to be done in 300 characters so requires some thought,  but don't forget you can edit your profile at any time.

Here is an example of a business summary "Retail e-shop selling all things renewable power related such as solar panels & micro wind generation, . Aimed at the home consumer market. Uniquely allows the customer to track carbon footprint via the website before and after installation."

Step 5 - Business Background

The business background is where you explain your business concept in more detail. You should try to cover the following in brief:

Business idea - add more detail to the summary. Explain clearly what the idea is and how it will work, don't assume any knowledge on behalf of the reader. But do keep it simple, if your write it as if explaining it to a 10 year old that should be at the correct level.

Market - Try to give an investor an idea of the size of your target market. So lets say its an on-line florist your research may have found that 7,000 people purchase flowers on-line each day or that the on-line market is worth 1 million a year. If there is about to be a chance in the market that you are aware of highlight this, for example a change in legislation.

Management Team - If you have a plan or know who will be involved then just summarise that very quickly. For example "Management team consists of myself with 10 years experience in the industry and my fellow director who has been the financial director of an SME for the last 15 years"

Finance - Provide high level sales figures for the 1st year and if you know net profit figures provide these as well. For example "We are projected to turnover £100,000 in year 1 with a net profit of £22,000.

All this needs to be fitted inside 3000 characters. You can't fit everything in and you don't need to because there is plenty more detail provided with your enhanced profile, just get the key facts. You are trying to give the investor enough to gain their interest.

Step 6 - Type of investment

This section allows you to let the investor know what type of investment you are looking for. Remember investment is not just of money it can be of time as well in the form of mentoring or partnership.

Financial investment - If you are looking for financial investment for your business then you should select yes for this option. This covers both equity funding and loan funding, you decide which you are looking for in the next step.

A business mentor - If your business is looking for a mentor, someone to bring you experience, someone who can open doors then select yes for this option.

A business partner - If you are looking for a partner who brings specific skills to your business you should select yes for this option. For example you may be looking for a financial director or marketing director.

More detail - explain below

Explain in this box exactly what you are looking for with your above selections. So if you are looking for a business mentor or business partner then detail what you need and how they would fit into your business. This is your chance to sell your business to potential mentors or business partners.

Step 7 - Financial information

If you have selected financial investment in step 6 then you should complete this section to explain in more detail what sort of financial investment you are looking for and how that investment will be used.

Loan - You are looking for a loan that you will pay back. This would typically be for £25,000 or less.

Equity - You are looking to swap a financial investment for private equity in your company.

Equity & loan - You are looking for a combination of the above. So you may look to loan the first 25k of investment and the rest will be for equity.

Financial investment overview (detail how the money will be used)

Give as much details as you can about how the investment will be used. This section is key so investors can see that you have thought through the figure you have asked for and you know how you will spend the money.

Step 8 - Update profile

Read back over your profile and if you are happy click the update profile button. Your profile is now live for investors to view.
